Most "best internal linking tools" roundups quote pricing that's wrong. We checked all 23 vendors.
We verified the pricing of every tool in this directory on the vendor's own pricing page, then compared it with what the top-ranking "best internal linking tools" articles say. Of the 23 tools, 9 are misquoted in roundups that rank on page one today — including two plan structures that no longer exist and one product that was renamed a year ago. Two of the roundups were re-checked on September 8, 2026: both still carry the stale figures.
The headline findings
- Semrush's Pro, Guru, and Business plans don't exist anymore. Semrush restructured in 2026 into SEO ($139/mo), Starter ($199/mo), Pro+ ($299/mo), and Advanced ($549/mo). Every roundup we checked still quotes the old three-tier lineup at $129.95–$499.95.
- Link Whisper's widely-quoted prices are two generations old. Roundups cite $67 or $77 for a single site and $107–$187 for multi-site licenses. The vendor's site sells $97 (1 site), $197 (3), $297 (10), and $497 (50) per year, with a 14-day money-back guarantee — not the 30 days often claimed.
- "Interlinks Manager" no longer exists. Roundups still describe DAEXT's plugin as a one-time purchase ($39–$195). It was renamed Link Manager Pro and moved to annual subscriptions ($59–$149/yr).
- First-year prices are quoted as if they were the price. AIOSEO's advertised $49.50–$299.50 tiers are 50%-off introductory prices that renew at double — and its internal linking feature (Link Assistant) is only in the two most expensive tiers, which most roundups don't mention.

"What roundups say" aggregates the five articles ranking on page one for "best internal linking tools" as captured August 24, 2026; the LinkStorm and SEOTesting roundups were re-checked September 8, 2026 and still carried the figures above. Vendor figures come from each vendor's own pricing page on the verification date shown, in the vendor's listed currency.
Why roundup pricing goes stale
- Roundups copy roundups. The same wrong Link Whisper figures appear across articles in nearly identical wording. Nobody re-opens the vendor's pricing page.
- Vendors change prices quietly and often. Semrush replaced its whole plan structure; Screaming Frog moved from £199 toward higher regional pricing; DAEXT rebranded an entire product. None of these announced it to the people ranking for their category.
- Intro pricing masquerades as pricing. WordPress SEO plugins in particular advertise first-year discounts that renew at roughly double. Quoting the sticker price understates the real cost by half.
- Currency and geo quirks. Rank Math shows euros to everyone, everywhere. Screaming Frog's dollar price is a client-side conversion of a GBP price. A crawler in the wrong country quotes a price no reader will ever pay.
Our own house was wrong too
Full disclosure: this directory is operated by the team behind LinkStorm, and LinkStorm's own roundup was one of the five we audited. It quoted Link Whisper's previous-generation prices and Semrush's discontinued plans, exactly like its competitors. It is being corrected as this audit is published. That's rather the point: pricing rot isn't a symptom of bad faith, it's what happens to any listicle nobody re-verifies.
Methodology
- All 23 tool profiles in this directory were verified against the vendor's own pricing page on August 24–27, 2026, with a follow-up pass September 7, 2026. Pages that block automated access (Semrush, Link Whisper, Screaming Frog, Yoast) were fetched through residential proxies from a US vantage point.
- "Wrong" means the roundup's figure did not match the vendor's published pricing at our capture date — not that it was wrong when originally written.
- We record prices in the vendor's listed currency and treat the cheapest plan that actually includes internal linking as the entry price.
- Each tool's profile page shows its verification date. We re-verify quarterly; corrections are welcome at any time from vendors and readers.
